the #41 endowment

The Legacy of #41. At Montana State, some numbers carry more than a name. #41 is a legacy. A symbol of sacrifice, pride, and Montana grit. It started with a plaque — honoring 14 former Bobcats who gave their lives in WWII. From there it became a tradition — started by Coach Jeff Choate to recognize Montana-made players who embody the spirit of the state.

Caden Dowler steps into #41 for 2026, a number that carries far more than a position.

A team captain and projected starting strong safety, Caden brings experience, toughness, and a playmaker’s instinct to the back end. His journey has been defined by resilience through injury and impact when he’s on the field, from key tackles to creating turnovers.

Rooted in Montana’s history as the 41st state and honoring the 14 Bobcats lost in World War II, this legacy represents toughness, sacrifice, and pride.

Through the #41 Legacy Scholarship, created by former Bobcats Grant Collins and Brayden Konkol of Montana Build Group, that tradition continues by investing in the next leader to wear it.
